Perse hockey teams riding high in national competitions

Perse girls’ 1st XI

Perse girls’ 1st XI and U16 teams are flying high in the England Hockey National Schools Championships.

The 1st XI have reached the final of the U18 National Plate competition, where they will face Eastbourne College at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre – the venue for the 2012 Olympics hockey tournament – on 3 March.

In the early rounds, they beat The Leys 2-1, Culford School 2-0 and St Edwards’s Oxford, winning 4-3 on penalty strokes following a goalless draw.

A 3-1 victory over Felsted in the quarter-finals set up a meeting with Ellesmere College in the last four.

Madalena Sennitt scored twice and Bella Howarth was also on target as The Perse were held to a 3-3 draw against Ellesmere, but they earned their place in the final by winning the penalty shootout 4-2.

Perse girls’ U16 team

Meanwhile, the U16 team will take on Millfield in the semi-finals of the U16 National Cup on neutral ground in Reading on Thursday (24 February) as they aim to book a spot in the final.

They scored 23 goals without conceding in the first three rounds of the competition with triumphs over Felsted (4-0), Forest School (13-0) and Ipswich School (6-0).

The girls ran out 2-1 victors against Oakham School in the fourth round before knocking out Dean Close School 5-0 in the quarter-finals, with May Busher netting four and Xanthe Farman one, to set up their meeting with Millfield.
