National indoor finals await Perse hockey team

The Perse U16 boys’ indoor hockey team has qualified for the England Hockey Schools Super 6s national finals after being crowned East champions.

In the round-robin regional finals at Norwich’s University of East Anglia, the team got under way with 3-0 and 6-0 triumphs against Bedford School and Bishop’s Stortford College respectively.

However, it came down to a winner-takes-all clash with Ipswich School in the final game to decide the destination of the title, with The Perse running out 3-2 victors to earn their spot in the national finals in January.

Perse Assistant Director of Sport (Performance) and team coach Ravi Mahendra said: “I am really proud of this group of players. We came together as a squad earlier in November to prepare for the indoor season and they have improved a great deal over the past few weeks.

“On the day they adapted really well when things did not go their way and showed fantastic resilience in their final game against Ipswich, where we needed a win to ensure we got through to the nationals due to Ipswich’s better goal difference.”
