East finals await Perse hockey teams

Girls’ U14 team

Regional finals beckon for three Perse hockey teams following success in their respective tournaments this week.

The girls’ U14 team have made it through to the East finals of the England Hockey National Schools Championships having taken one of the qualifying spots from their regional round.

They began by beating Bishop’s Stortford College 5-0 in the round-robin competition at Wilberforce Road, with Rosabel Clarke scoring twice and Willow Wallman, Isabel Fleming and Elodie Bowen-Sanders also on target.

Despite then losing 2-0 to Ipswich School, they responded with a 4-0 victory over Felsted courtesy of a Sophie Higgins double and goals from Willow Wallman and Verity Valentine.

They ensured their qualification with a 2-0 win against Norwich School thanks to goals by Maia Polonius and Willow Wallman.

The team will now face Ipswich, Framlingham College and Haileybury in the East finals, also at Wilberforce Road, on Tuesday (24 November).

Meanwhile, the U18 and U16 boys’ sides did the double in their respective county competitions, held at The Perse.

The U18 team overcame Hills Road Sixth Form College 6-0 and Kimbolton School 5-1, while the U16 side defeated Joyce Frankland Academy Newport 6-2 and the Stephen Perse Foundation 9-0.

They now move into their respective East finals at Norwich’s University of East Anglia.
