Perse School supporting Blutick free AI maths learning programme
31 Mar 2020
The Perse School Cambridge is delighted to support Blutick in offering an innovative maths learning programme free of charge in response to the Covid-19 crisis.
Blutick is an AI-powered learning system aimed at youngsters aged 11 to 16. Developed by Rob Percival, a successful computing coding entrepreneur and former maths teacher, Blutick includes more than 500 videos featuring Perse maths teachers past and present explaining each topic.
The Blutick system gives students intelligent, line-by-line feedback in real time as they work through their answers. Every line of working is checked and, as well as correcting mistakes, it gives guidance and tips like a real tutor, building users’ confidence and skills. It now provides Perse maths expertise to our own pupils and to pupils around the world.
With schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are more than 2.9 million secondary school-age children in the UK alone needing a new way forward in e-learning so for the period of Covid-19, Blutick has been made available free of charge to all pupils. A free version of Blutick will also be made available thereafter.
Since conventional learning at schools was halted, Blutick usage has rocketed. Over 119,000 questions were answered on the system last week alone and, judging by the time of day that people are using the system, this is certainly reaching around the world – a whole new, global dimension to outreach.
Blutick is being used by individuals and families as well as by whole schools. Webinar sessions were held last week with attendees from China, Mongolia, Malaysia and Pakistan. Next week, there will be a similar webinar for the whole South East Asia region, promoted by Cambridge Assessment International Education, who have given Blutick positive reviews.
Oriel Square, an independent publishing and strategy consultancy, reviewed the system and found that Blutick users improved significantly more rapidly (91% improvement) than students being taught the same topics without Blutick (only 31%).
Blutick offers learning opportunities for an unprecedented number of children around the world. We are proud that Perse innovation, combined with Cambridge expertise, is making this possible.
