Perse Prep pupils go back in time for Medieval History Day
16 Mar 2020
Year 5 Perse Prep pupils travelled back to the time of knights and Normans in their exciting Medieval History Day.
The children met a special visitor from the Medieval period, Lady Catherine, who told them about key events from the era and the clothes people wore before introducing them to the main features of her ‘manor’.
Dressed up in their Medieval finery, youngsters discovered more about the building of Cambridge Castle and investigated interesting artefacts and objects from the period. They also learned about knights’ heraldry and designed their own coat of arms.
They enjoyed taking part in a tradition game of fox and geese as well as the Domesday game, which helped them to understand the main purpose of the Domesday Book – to establish the land holdings of various lords, thus the amount of tax King William could expect from each of the holdings.
A special tournament rounded off the day, with pupils having the opportunity to become a knight by trying on helmets and handling swords and longbows.
