Perse Pelican pupils get into World Book Day spirit
9 Mar 2020
Perse Pelican pupils brought in jars filled with special objects as part of their World Book Day celebrations.
The theme for the day was based around Deborah Marcero’s book In a Jar, a tale about a little rabbit named Llewellyn who likes to gather bits and bobs in jars from ordinary objects such as buttercups, feathers and heart-shaped stones, to extraordinary things including rainbows, the sound of the ocean and the wind just before snow falls.
Just as Llewellyn likes to share his jars with others, Pelican children showed their classmates what things they had filled their jars with and enjoyed writing stories and poems about their receptacles.
Youngsters got into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up in a wide range of outfits from Winnie the Witch to Where’s Wally, as the day began with an assembly from the Year 1 Oak class talking about their work around MP Robertson’s book The Great Dragon Rescue as part of their Once Upon a Time topic.
Children also enjoyed making bookmarks featuring their favourite book characters and had fun thinking about what would happen if characters from different books met each other.
