The Perse boys’ U12 hockey team held their nerve to be crowned East In2Hockey schools champions following a win on penalty strokes in the final.
They were held to a 1-1 draw in the final against Bishop’s Stortford College at Wilberforce Road before taking the title with a 2-0 triumph in the shootout.
The team had earlier topped their group with three consecutive victories 1-0 wins against Hitchin Boys’ School and Bedford School sandwiching a 5-1 success over Stamford School – followed by a 1-1 draw with Bancroft’s School.
The boys continued their run with a 2-0 win over St Faith’s School in the semi-finals before going on to clinch the title in nail-biting fashion.
Team coach David Bennett said: “I’m very pleased with how the boys did. It wasn’t always pretty, but when they needed to turn it on in the big games, they really showed up.
“What’s most pleasing is that by the end of the day they were playing better hockey. Well done to them because they’ve worked hard all season and it’s nice for them to win it as a group together.”
