Students take centre stage in dazzling Perse Charity Cabaret
10 Feb 2020
Perse musicians and singers staged a sensational show at the school’s annual Charity Cabaret.
Organised by the Sixth Form Charities Committee, the event raised funds for Evidence Action’s Deworm the World initiative – a programme seeking to provide children in the world’s poorest countries with preventative medicine against infections spread by parasitic worms – as well as the Perse bursary and outreach funds.
A large audience enjoyed a wonderful evening of entertainment, featuring performances from a variety of soloists, duos and groups across a range of styles from contemporary pop and jazz to 1960s classics and songs from West End shows. Upper Sixth comperes Ewan Morris and Oli Buckingham kept the show on the road with their humorous and witty introductions.
The Acappelicans provided masterful renditions of Words, by Swedish vocal outfit The Real Group, Simon & Garfunkel’s classic Bridge Over Troubled Water and Bill Withers’ soulful hit Lean on Me.
The Perse Big Band were a powerful backing for performances of tracks such as Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire, Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and Put Your Records On originally sung by Corinne Bailey Rae.
The Upper Sixth Leavers’ Choir put their all into a performance of Walk the Moon hit Shut Up and Dance, while a fantastic evening of music was concluded with the traditional much-loved dance routine from the Senior Prefects.
