Cam Sight visit inspires Perse Pelican pupils
24 Jan 2020
Perse Pelican pupils discovered what life is like for those with visual impairments during a special visit from Cam Sight.
Nick Burr from the Cambridge-based charity, which helps people who are blind or are partially sighted gain access to support and advice, brought along his guide dog Amber to the Pelican and told the children how he had gone blind six years ago as a result of cancer.
He explained how he has special equipment and gadgets to help with day-to-day matters including a talking microwave and a beeping clip on his mug when making a cup of tea.
Nick rounded off his visit by introducing pupils to goalball – a Paralympic sport designed for athletes with visual impairments. Children put on blindfolds and enjoyed taking part in games using a special ball fitted with a bell.
