Perse Players prove frighteningly funny as The Addams Family

Ghoulish goings on with The Addams Family proved to be a huge hit with audiences in the Perse Players’ latest production.
Based around the horrifyingly hilarious fictional family of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley and Uncle Fester, talented Perse actors, technical crew and musicians staged four shows of the musical comedy to enthralled audiences in the Peter Hall Performing Arts Centre.
Perse Theatre Director in Residence Matt Hawksworth said: “We are always looking to produce the most exciting and freshest theatre and I was delighted when we were granted the licence to The Addams Family. It opened on Broadway and proved very popular with audiences and it’s become very popular in the UK with youth theatre groups. It has a great storyline – it’s about family, which we can all relate to, and it’s got some great show tunes.
“It’s also been great for the pupils to learn about comedy and the importance of timing and tone. They appreciated the importance of being silly and not taking themselves too seriously because the characters have a great heart and don’t take themselves too seriously.
“We hit the ground running in September, assembling a cast, crew and band quicker than we’ve done before. However, it proved a real tonic when the cold winter nights were drawing in, especially being an uplifting comedy.
“The company spurred each other on through a lot of rehearsals at a busy time in the school year and they received a really wonderful response from the audience – they even had a full standing ovation at the end of the final show – and really appreciated it.”
