French exchange adventure savoured by Perse students
13 Dec 2019
Thirty Year 9 and six Lower Sixth students travelled to Paris to take part in a French exchange. Year 9 pupils Charlotte Hipperson, Gregor Phillips and Marc Rocca provide their account of the visit.
Having successfully negotiated the Paris metro, we made it to Sainte-Croix School where we met our French exchange partners. We had afternoon tea before going home and meeting their families. We ate some delicious French food and had some good conversations with everyone.
Next morning we walked to the school where we met the teachers and prepared to visit the amazing Stade de France. We visited the players’ changing rooms and even saw the custody rooms for anti-social behaviour. In the evening, we all went back to our French host families’ homes, played some board games and ate dinner.
At the weekend, Perse students spent time with their French host families. My family took me to the Eiffel Tower. It was a very bright day so we were able to see many Parisian attractions from the top of the tower, such as the Arc de Triomphe and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
On the Monday, we joined in morning lessons with our French exchanges and ate a delicious lunch with them in the school canteen. After this, we headed off to the Louvre, where we saw the Mona Lisa and completed a photography competition. After another lovely evening with our host families, we were dropped off at Sainte-Croix before heading to the chocolate factory were we looked around the museum and took part in a particularly enjoyable chocolate-making workshop.
We then went on a cruise on the River Seine and took many photos of the wonderful views. Having disembarked, we walked to the Beaugrenelle shopping centre where we had some free time in groups, followed by cakes from a French patisserie to celebrate Mabel and Charlie’s birthdays. In the evening, there was an event at Sainte-Croix, where everybody could meet and chat.
The next day we travelled home after two more lessons at the French school. The exchange was an amazing experience and we cannot wait for our partners to come to Cambridge!
