Animal antics relished by Perse Pelican children
5 Dec 2019
Corn snakes and cockroaches were among the amazing animals Perse Pelican Nursery children got to grips with during a memorable visit from ZooLab.
It was the first time many of the youngsters had been up close to such animals, which also included a gecko, a tarantula and a rat. Most were brave enough to touch the creatures, while a few even volunteered to have a go at holding them!
Honey the gecko proved to be the favourite among the children, who were surprised at how soft she was, followed a close second by Princess Katie the rat. They loved watching her run along her handler’s outstretched arms and back into her box.
The ZooLab visit coincided with the Nursery’s topic this term of ‘ourselves’, learning about their families, where they live and their bodies and senses.
Nursery teacher Emma Brunt said: “Through the different animals, we were able to discuss some of their similarities and differences to us. They were quite surprised at how similar they were to the rat!”
