The Perse U16 and U14 netball teams put in excellent performances to reach the regional finals of the National Schools Netball Championships.
Both teams finished runners-up in their respective county competitions to qualify for the East round on 25 January. This is the first time both age group sides have made it through to the next stage in the same year.
The U16 team won their first five matches in the round-robin tournament, held at The Perse, with victories over Impington Village College (11-3), St Mary’s School (7-3), Hinchingbrooke School (10-5), St Bede’s Inter-Church School (13-8) and The Peterborough School (16-3).
They lost 9-4 to the Stephen Perse Foundation, but responded by beating King’s Ely 8-5 in their final game to book their place in the regional finals.
The U14 side also enjoyed a fine day with impressive triumphs against Peterborough (10-5), St Bede’s (16-1), Hinchingbrooke (13-5), Longsands Academy (15-5), St Mary’s (12-1) and Impington 13-6 before losing narrowly 12-8 to SPF in their last game.
Perse Assistant Director of Sport Emma Jones said: “This is the first time in the school’s netball history that we have got both our U14 and U16 teams into the regional round of the national competition in the same year.
“I am over the moon for the girls and their coaches. It was a solid effort from both teams who came together and played so well.”
