Students from Singapore shared their experiences of life in their country with Perse pupils during a special visit to the school.
Around 40 pupils from Nanyang Girls’ High School stopped off at The Perse as part of their tour of the UK and met Year 11 members of the Perse Model United Nations group.
Perse pupils gave brief talks about the political, social and economic systems in the UK, while the visitors provided a similar overview from a Singaporean perspective as well as their reflections on China, where they have also recently toured.
After breaking into smaller groups to mull over the information, the meeting was rounded off with a discussion comparing and contrasting society in the UK, Singapore and China, with topics ranging from education styles to gay rights.
Perse pupil Ana Popescu said she had enjoyed meeting the Nanyang students and discovering more about Singapore from them.
She said: “They were really nice and friendly and even gave us some presents!
“I found it really interesting. You can read articles, but it was good to find out about their country from the perspective of people who live there because it feels more reliable.”
