National finals play-off beckons for Perse hockey team

A play-off for a place in the national schools finals awaits The Perse U14 girls’ hockey team after they finished runners-up in the East finals at Redbridge.
In the round-robin competition, the team opened with a goalless draw against Sevenoaks School despite having the better of the second half, forcing the opposition goalkeeper into making a number of saves as well as having a flurry of short corners in the closing stages.
A 2-2 draw followed against Framlingham College as they came from behind twice thanks to goals from May Busher.
The Perse needed to win their final game against Weald of Kent Grammar School to remain in with a chance of progressing to the national finals. They did just that with a 5-0 triumph courtesy of strikes from Lottie Smith, May Busher, Ellie Izzard and Holly Smith and a penalty flick by Charlotte Rye.
However following their earlier draws, the team finished behind Framlingham in the table and will now wait to discover who they will face in the play-offs in the New Year.
