Horatia Duggan (Year 11) has been awarded a scholarship to New York Film Academy after impressing star spotters at the Talent Inc conference in the USA.
Talent Inc is an international organisation providing actors and performers with specialist coaching as well as holding showcase events attended by show business agents. Horatia was invited to attend the Talent Inc event in Florida following a successful audition at the organisation’s showcase in London last year.
Horatia was one of just two UK representatives at the conference and was thrilled to be involved as she discovered more about how to break into the entertainment industry, as well as being given the chance to display her ability in a number of areas from improvisation to television commercials.
She said: “Since the conference was only a few days long, it was very intense. Sometimes I got really nervous, but when I was watching other performers, I was thinking ‘I’m so glad I’m part of this’.
“I went with my friend, who is a dancer, and everyone else was American so they were infatuated with our accents which was funny, but it was lovely experience. I learned so much from it and I’m so glad I did it.”
Horatia’s reward for her efforts in Florida was being offered a scholarship to the New York Film Academy after impressing a representative from the prestigious film and acting school. She hopes to take up their invitation to join a teen musical theatre summer camp in 2020.
She said: “It was so amazing to be awarded a scholarship and it looks like it will be great fun. I enjoy all kinds of performing arts and it’s something I’d love to do in the future.”
