Perse Pelican pupils make clay creations in special art workshop
5 Jun 2019
Year 2 Perse Pelican pupils were given a helping hand by Upper art students in transforming their prints, based on Cambridge buildings, into clay models.
The children took inspiration from a Lowry painting they had seen during a trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum before studying buildings in Cambridge. They each took a photo of a building of their choice before drawing it in pencil and ink and also making beautiful watercolour paintings.
Pupils then made collagraph plates of the buildings they had photographed which they took to the Upper, where Year 9 pupils supported them in rolling the clay, impressing their textures and cutting. The artworks were fired in the kiln and washed in coloured oxides by the Year 9 pupils before being re-fired.
All of the fantastic creations will go on display at the Pelican Art Exhibition on Thursday (6 June).
