Perse complete double with Junior Schools’ Challenge triumph

The Perse junior general knowledge team have followed in the footsteps of the senior side after winning the Junior Schools’ Challenge national title.
Warwick School was the scene for the Senior Schools’ Challenge national finals when the Perse senior team was crowned champions in April. The same venue also proved to be a happy hunting ground for the junior side in the competition, which is considered to be the schools equivalent of University Challenge.
Vishrut Pisupati (Year 8) captained the Perse team, featuring Freddie Doel, Harry Purvis (both Year 8) and Dhruv Radhakrishnan (Year 7) as they beat George Heriot’s School 530-430 and Magdalen College School 750-540 in the quarter and semi-finals respectively.
The final was a tight encounter with The Royal Grammar School Guildford, but despite being neck and neck throughout, The Perse edged ahead late on to secure a 630-610 victory and the overall honours.
Team coach Lilly Freeman said: “It was a fantastic day of quizzing and a thoroughly deserved win after months of hard work and early morning training.”
