Perse athletes have a field day at regional events

Perse athletes have braved the wet weather to enjoy success on the track and field across a series of events.
Alex Blake and George Christmas will be heading to Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium for the National Prep Schools Championships after qualifying from the East Area finals at Bedford. Alex won the 800m in a time of 2m 18sec, while George was runner-up in the 1,500m in 4min 56sec.
In the Cambridgeshire Schools Championships at Peterborough, Alice Lord produced an excellent performance in the field events, taking the intermediate girls’ title in the javelin with a throw of 30.79m and coming third in the discus with 21.21m.
Elsewhere at the county finals, Charlie Knott claimed top spot in the intermediate boys’ high jump after leaping 1.90m and was runner-up in the hurdles in 15.7sec. In the same category, Tom Blake raced to victory in the 800m in 2.06.
The junior boys’ 1,500m was won by Isaac Rothwell in 4min 24sec, with Alex Blake second in the 800m (2.19) and Yujian Zou runner-up in the shot (11.33). Maya Vandermark and Lucy Boyde came second in the 300m (46.1sec) and long jump (4.10m) respectively in the junior girls’ section, while in the same group, Sophie Allen was third in the javelin with 22.83m.
Meanwhile, the Perse intermediate boys’ team came second in the ESAA East Region Track & Field Cup at Watford. They scored a total of 389 points, with notable performances from Freddie Brierley (45 points), Ollie Rogers (38), Rob Gwilt (37), Charlie Underwood (37) and Yujian Zou (36).
The junior boys’ team were sixth with 320 points, with Harry Purvis contributing 44, Max Ramsden 32 and Alex Blake 30, while the junior girls’ team were 10th with 240 points. May Busher collected 39, Grace Bennett 30 and Isabelle Whichello 26.
