Perse canoeists have a splashing time at Olympic venue
2 May 2019
Members of the Perse Canoe Club Foundation group were given a taste of the rapids at Lee Valley White Water Centre – the venue which hosted a number of the London 2012 Olympics canoeing events.
The day began with pupils testing out the water temperature and safely swimming down the white water course to gain their confidence before stepping into their rafts to take on the Legacy Loop.
After an exciting two hours of rafting, pupils had the chance to try hydrospeeding – similar to body boarding – down the white water course to round off an exhilarating day.
Perse outdoor pursuits instructor Mark Hughes said: “The day was enjoyed by all and really tested the skills that the students have learnt over the last year in Canoe Club and showed their confidence in the white water.”
