Perse Prep hockey team claim silver at IAPS national finals

The Perse Prep U11 boys’ hockey team clinched a brilliant second place in the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) national finals at Rugby School.
After qualifying from the East finals earlier this month, the Prep side set their stall out at the nationals by topping their group. Following a 1-1 draw with Bromsgrove School, they ran out 4-0 winners against Cargilfield Prep School and beat Langley School 3-1. Ardingly College were then defeated 2-0 before a 4-0 victory over New College School Oxford rounded off the pool stage.
St George’s School were beaten 4-3 in an end-to-end quarter-final before another strong performance saw the Prep team prevail 2-0 against King’s Hall School in the semi-finals.
The win set up a final against the familiar opposition of St Faith’s School and after a 1-1 deadlock at the end of normal time, it needed a golden goal in extra time from St Faith’s to settle the match.
As well as the runners-up honours, the Prep had more to cheer about as Henry won the player of the tournament award, voted for by the competition umpires.
