Perse Prep football team kick on to ISFA national finals
13 Mar 2019
The Perse Prep U11 football team will have the chance to tread the same turf as England stars Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford after earning their place in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) national finals.
That is because the reward for the Prep winning the regional qualifying tournament is the thrill of a trip to St George’s Park, the England team’s training headquarters, for the ISFA finals on 7 May.
It was the third year in four years that the Prep team have reached the latter stages, but it was also the first time the school has hosted the East finals. They topped their group by beating St Cedd’s School 4-2 and claiming 4-0 victories over Kimbolton School and Elm Green Prep School before rounding off with a 3-1 success against Milton Keynes Prep School.
In the quarter-finals, the Prep team defeated Bedford Modern School 3-1 and followed it up with a 2-0 triumph over Kimbolton in the semi-finals to set up a repeat of their last pool match in the final, with the scoreline again being 3-1 against Milton Keynes.
The Prep scored 23 goals and conceded just five as they maintained a 100% record throughout the tournament.
Prep Head of Football Dan Nicholes said: “I would like to congratulate all of the boys for their hard work, fantastic play and mental resilience.”
