The Perse Prep U11 netball and boys’ hockey teams will be heading to the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) national finals following success in the regional rounds of their respective competitions.
It is the fourth year in a row that the Prep boys’ hockey team has made it to the IAPS national finals and the third time in the last four years that the netball team has reached the finals.
The netball team triumphed in the regional finals at St Faith’s School after winning every match in the tournament.
They topped their group by beating St John’s College School 11-1, St Faith’s 4-0 and Culford School 7-0. A 5-1 victory over South Lee School followed in the quarter-finals and they defeated Bedford School 6-4 in the semi-finals before taking the honours with an 8-3 win against Berkhamsted School in the final.
The girls will now travel to Epsom College on 21 March for the IAPS national netball finals.
Meanwhile, the Prep boys’ hockey team will be involved in the IAPS hockey finals at Rugby School on 20 March after edging through from the regional competition at Bishop’s Stortford College.
They won their pool without conceding a goal, prevailing against Norwich School (5-0), Eagle House School (3-0) and Beachborough (6-0), and maintained their clean sheet record with a 4-0 triumph over Junior King’s Canterbury in the quarter-finals.
The Prep team lost their semi-final 2-1 against Town Close School, but bounced back to beat Eagle House 2-0 in the third-place play-off and claim the last qualifying spot for the national finals.
