Double county glory for Perse cricket teams
29 Mar 2019
The Perse School girls’ indoor cricket teams savoured double success at the county finals of the Lady Taverners tournament.
The U13 team came out on top in their round-robin competition to ensure their spot in the regional finals at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre on 26 April.
They beat Littleport & East Cambs Academy after chasing down a total of 21 and followed it up by bowling out Comberton Village College for 25, having set a target of 83, before overcoming Bottisham Village College, who had posted a score of 48 batting first.
Those results set up a winner-takes-all clash with the previously undefeated Stephen Perse Foundation in the final game. The Perse School made 72 from their innings and SPF fell short in their run chase, making 53 from their eight overs. Leading bowlers were Lulu Harding and Biz Whichello with five wickets apiece during the tournament.
The U15 team began their campaign by tying with Linton Village College after both sides scored 76 before losing to The Leys. However, they bounced back to beat St Bede’s Inter-Church School, dismissing their opponents for 20 after setting a target of 100, in their final group match.
With The Perse School and Linton finishing on the same points, a place in the final against The Leys was decided on wicket countback. Having lost two less wickets, The Perse School made it through and they made up for their earlier loss to The Leys by recording 95 batting first before bowling out their opponents for 41.
The girls will now take part in the regional finals, also at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre, on 1 May.
