What a Knight! as Perse Prep actors take Centre Stage
15 Feb 2019
What a Knight! it was for young Perse Prep actors as they brought a humorous twist to the Arthurian legend.
The Year 5 Centre Stage group staged the musical comedy, written by Craig Hawes, with an entertaining show that went down well with the audience.
The play centres on the character of Watt Cobblers, who fails in his bid to become a knight of the Round Table only to emerge as the hero with his courage and bravery helping to save Camelot and thwart chess-loving baddie the Black Knight in his efforts to steal Excalibur.
Prep Head of English Raph De Albuquerque said the cast of 21 pupils had spent the last one-and-a-half terms working on What a Knight! every Wednesday after school.
She said: “We chose this play because we knew it would be so much fun to rehearse and we had a lot of laughs. The lovely thing was the children helped with the choreography as well and everybody got to have a speaking part.
“It went really well and they really enjoyed it. More than that, there were some great comic performances and they really made the audience laugh.”
