Perse students display number knowledge at Maths Slam
8 Feb 2019
Jaeheon Shim and Cameron Mackenzie demonstrated their numerical nous in quickfire fashion at the Maths Slam event in London.
The Lower Sixth students gave a brief lowdown on the square root of the number two, exploring its irrational nature and various methods of approximating its value, in front of a 1,000-strong audience at the Piccadilly Theatre.
The Perse pair were one of just four school teams invited to take part in Maths Slam after submitting a video entry of their talk.
The competition formed part of Maths Fest, a day-long festival of maths for Sixth Form students. Jaeheon and Cameron were well supported by a group of 17 Perse students attending the event, which included exciting talks from guest speakers on a wide range of topics from ‘Maths, Music and Harmony’ to How to be Human in the Age of Machines’.
