Festive and thought-provoking Christmas performances at The Perse Pelican
10 Dec 2018
Children at The Perse Pelican got into the festive spirit with wonderful performances of uplifting Christmas shows.
Nursery and Reception children captured the hearts of the audience with their respective takes on the traditional Nativity, entitled Away in a Manger and Born in a Barn.
Meanwhile, Year 1 pupils put on the thought-provoking play Eddie the Penguin Saves the World in which the hero of the tale goes on a global mission with his family to highlight the importance of protecting the environment.
With the ice melting in their native Antarctica, they travel to the North Pole and meet a group of polar bears (and Father Christmas) only to find the same thing happening there. Eddie and his family move on to Australia, Brazil, the USA and finally the UK, where they meet the Prime Minister, discovering more about why the climate is changing and spreading a message of what can be done to help save the planet.
The topic of the play also dovetailed with the Pelican’s support for conservationist Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots scheme, which encourages children to implement practical and positive change for people, animals and the environment.
Collections took place after each festive performance, with funds raised being split between the World Wide Fund for Nature and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
