District cross country triumphs for Perse teams
5 Dec 2018
Perse runners were on fine form at the Cambridge & District Schools Cross Country Championships.
Forty-seven Perse athletes were on the start line for the competition at Netherhall School, racing against pupils from all schools in the Cambridge area across three categories in the team events – minor (Year 7), junior (Years 8 and 9) and intermediate (Years 10 and 11) – with selection for the Cambridgeshire trials up for grabs. There was also a senior (Sixth Form) class which was not part of the team events.
The Perse maintained their fine recent form in cross country with the boys’ teams winning all three categories and the girls’ junior and intermediate teams both finishing fourth.
Top individual performances came from Rebecca West, who led much of the way in the junior girls’ race and came a close second, and George Christmas, who was runner-up in the minor boys’ event, while Katy Ellis was second in the senior girls’ category. Ethan Seal and Elspeth Rogers were third in the intermediate boys’ and girls’ classes respectively, while Jake Borrett was fourth (junior boys) and Millie Ely came sixth (minor girls). A total of 12 boys and eight girls have been invited to take part in the county trials.
