The 2018 Braben Cup winners
Schools across the country are being invited to take part in the second edition of The Perse Coding Team Challenge in early 2019.
More than 180 teams from across the UK participated in our inaugural competition last school year with many more expected to join for January 2019. Sponsored by Dr David Braben OBE, co-founder of Raspberry Pi and founder of video game production company Frontier Developments, the competition, which will be held over two rounds, is open to pupils from Years 7 to 11 and can be taken within their own schools.
In the entry round, pairs of students will have 40 minutes to sit the test at any time between 28 January and 8 February 2019. Code solutions can be submitted in a range of languages for immediate online testing/feedback. Certificates will be awarded with the top-scoring teams invited into the second round where they will add a third team member (up to a maximum of two Year 10/11 pupils) and will be sat at their own school any time from 18 to 29 March 2019.
Registration is free and as well as winning the Braben Cup, the triumphant team will receive a £300 prize to split between members, with £200 for the runners-up and £100 for the third-placed team.
Paul Baker, Head of Computing and Digital Strategy at The Perse, said: “The questions and the team format are designed to both encourage confidence and participation in a range of accessible coding problems. We are delighted to welcome every new school who can join us this year.”
