Tess Howard (OP 2017) has been called up to the Great Britain women’s hockey squad for the first time after being named in the squad for FIH Women’s Champions Trophy in China later this month.
Tess, who captained the England U18 team while at The Perse, is in line to make her full international debut during the tournament in Changzhou.
She is one of four new players, along with Amy Tennant, Erica Sanders and Sarah Jones, who will join a GB squad that will take on hosts China in their opening game on Saturday 17 November. The team will then face Australia on 18 November, Japan on 20 November, World Cup champions Netherlands on 22 November and Argentina on 24 November.
The Champions Trophy marks the start of a crucial phase of international hockey with qualification for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 to be decided within the next year.
David Ralph, who will lead the GB squad in China, told the GB Hockey website: “We would like to congratulate Amy, Sarah, Tess and Erica, who will all be winning their first Great Britain caps in Changzhou. The Champions Trophy presents a great opportunity for all of them to showcase their talents and is a justified reward for their development and performances.”
