Former Perse rugby captain makes Northampton Saints debut

Alex Coles (OP 2018) made his first-team debut for Northampton Saints in their victory over Wasps yesterday.
Saints beat Wasps 15-14 away at the Ricoh Arena, thanks to a late try from Mitch Eadie, to go top of their group in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
Former Perse 1st XV rugby captain Alex, who signed a full-time contract with Northampton’s senior academy in March, came off the bench in the 62nd minute for his maiden appearance in the first team with Saints 14-3 down at the time.
After the match, Alex, who played for the England U18 team while at The Perse, tweeted: “Great to make my @SaintsRugby debut. Thanks to everyone who helped me get here.”
Perse Head of Rugby Liam St John was thrilled to see Alex make the step up to the professional game.
He said: “We’re immensely proud of Alex and incredibly pleased for him. It’s a reflection of many hours of hard work to get to this point. Knowing Alex, he will no doubt have his sights set on securing a regular 1st XV jersey with Northampton and involvement with the England U20 squad.”
