Cambridgeshire success for Perse hockey teams

30 Nov 2018

The Perse School’s girls’ U18 and U16 indoor hockey teams will represent Cambridgeshire in the East finals of the England Hockey Schools Super 6s Championships after winning their respective county rounds.

The U18 team clinched the county title after winning all three matches in the round-robin tournament, held at The Perse. They set the tone by beating Saffron Walden County High School 1-0 with Sophie Brierley’s goal separating the sides.

Sophie Brierley was again on target, along with Eve Meakin, as The Perse prevailed 2-1 against Wisbech Grammar School before earning the overall crown with a 2-1 victory over Hills Road Sixth Form College, thanks to goals from Katherine Russell and Katie Curtis-Smith.

They will not have long to wait to return to action, as the U18 regional finals take place at the University of East Anglia in Norwich on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the U16 team won 11-0 against Joyce Frankland Academy Newport to book their spot in the regional finals at Hatfield’s Queenswood School on 9 December. Ava London hit a hat-trick and Tilly Borrett and Alexandra Pitchford both netted twice, while Rebecca Grainger, Freya Stafford, Bella Izzard and Maeve Halligan were also on the score sheet.
