Oliver Brunt (Year 9) enjoyed a successful day in helping the England Schools golf team to victory over their Welsh counterparts.
The England team ran out 13-5 winners in the annual international at Llanwern, with the 14-year-old Perse pupil being the youngest member of the side.
Oliver won his foursomes match with team-mate Josh Ashton in style, holing the winning putt on the 18th green, as they beat Abe Forsyth and Bryn Thomas and helped England take a 5-1 lead from the morning session. He went on to narrowly lose his afternoon singles match 2&1 to 17-year-old opponent Ioan Jones off scratch after putting in an impressive performance, but the England team clinched a comfortable triumph overall.
It capped a fine summer for Oliver, whose handicap is now down to an exceptional 2.5, having secured the Hertfordshire U14 county title and finished fifth in the North of England U14 Championships besides playing well in both the English and Scottish Boys’ Open competitions.
