Successful summer at British and World level for Perse rower
15 Aug 2018
Brett Taylor (Year 11) has made his international rowing debut after earning success at national level.
The Perse pupil recently won the J16 Open single sculls title at the British Rowing Junior Championships, held at Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre, to follow up his triumph at the British Rowing Indoor Championships last December. Representing Rob Roy boat club, Brett won the national final in a time of 8.08.52, more than three seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Following on from this victory, Brett represented Chinese Taipei in the single sculls at the World Rowing Junior Championships in the Czech Republic.
After finishing fifth in his heat and fourth in a repechage at the competition in Racice, he finished runner-up with a personal best of 7.22.7 in a race to decide which placing final he would take part in. Brett went on to come fifth in the E final in a time of 7.23.18 to claim an overall ranking of 29th – a terrific effort competing against rowers two years his senior.
