Our journey through journalism
24 Jul 2018
The new journalism course at The Perse Summer School has been an instant success for the students attending.
The pupils have been learning about fake news, filming and editing and various interviewing skills.
One of the students attending, Hannah, explained why she enjoyed the course:
“I enjoyed learning about how to be a good interviewer. I chose this course because I enjoy writing and I like to read the news to find out what is going on in the world.”
Another student, George, said: “I learned about the types of media – television, radio and print – and how you have to write differently for them.”
During the course, there have been a number of guest visitors coming to talk to the students about how their jobs are related to the media.
On Wednesday, the students learned about film-making and created a film about what they had learned throughout the course.
On Thursday, they went on a trip to the Cambridge Independent newspaper and saw the process of how newspapers are put together and printed.
Overall, this summer course was a good experience for the students, who said they would strongly recommend it to other people in the future.
