Perse golfers shine in ISGA Junior tournaments
25 Jun 2018
Perse golfers have been in fine form on the fairway with excellent results in the Independent Schools Golf Association Junior Open and ISGA Junior League national finals.
In the Junior Open at Sunningdale, Oliver Brunt (Year 9), playing off an impressive handicap of 4.2, shot 62 (+4) to come joint second in the individual gross competition, while Will McKernan (Year 8) hit a terrific 70 (+12) to tie for third in the individual nett competition. Their combined scores led to third-place finishes in both the team gross and nett events.
The Perse pair followed it up in the Junior League finals at Radley College in Oxford, with all golfers playing off a handicap of 36 in a Stableford competition.
Oliver won the individual title with an exceptional haul of 68 points and Will’s 53-point contribution meant The Perse claimed third spot in the team event with 121 points.
This meant The Perse finished fifth in the ISGA Junior Schools rankings for the season – the school’s highest ever placing – and that Oliver was the top ranked junior golfer in the country.
Oliver also has a busy summer ahead with the English Schools Golf Association national finals at The Shire in London this week and the Faldo Series Southern Championships in July.
