Perse roboteers perform well in RoboCon competition

18 Apr 2018

An autonomous robot built by Lower Sixth students took runners-up spot at the RoboCon Cambridge Robotics competition.

The Perse team of Pavan Tanna, Owen Peckham, James Mason, Edmund Prager, Richard Hughes, George Palozzi and captain Jonah Lehner performed well in the tournament, held at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

The task was to build an autonomous robot which, without human intervention, could collect boxes from a 6mx6m arena and place them in their team’s crate or zone.

After the first day, the Perse team was seeded first in the round-robin competition, but a series of unfortunate mechanical failures pushed them into third place before the knockout rounds began the following day.

A seven-hour overnight repair job allowed the team to come back fighting fit for the semi-finals. They eliminated two teams to go through to the final, where they suffered a narrow defeat.
