Northampton Saints finals date for Perse rugby sevens team
13 Mar 2018
The Perse U13 rugby sevens team got their campaign off to a flying start by qualifying for the Redrow Northampton Saints Sevens finals.
The Perse hosted the regional qualifiers and the team made it through by winning six of their seven matches, with their only defeat coming against a strong Felsted School side in a close-fought encounter.
They will now be looking to win the event for the fourth year in a row when they compete in the finals at the Aviva Premiership side’s Franklin’s Gardens ground next month.
The team followed it up with a terrific performance at the prestigious Berkhamsted Sevens competition.
They topped their pool by beating Whitgift School 30-10, Queen Elizabeth’s School 35-15 and Barry Comprehensive School 40-10.
This meant The Perse qualified for one of the winners’ groups, where they maintained their run of form with a 45-5 victory over Belmont Hill Prep School and a 25-5 success against Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School before losing 20-15 to Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen in a game that could have gone either way.
Yujian Zou scored 12 tries and was The Perse’s player of the Berkhamsted tournament, while Achira Waduge chalked up nine tries, having made great progress since moving up to the A rugby team during the Michaelmas term.
