Top musicians hit the right note with Perse masterclasses
8 Feb 2018
Perse music students received top tips during masterclasses with leading percussionist Eddy Hackett and highly-acclaimed pianist Joseph Middleton.
Eddy Hackett has performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists, groups and orchestras from Curtis Stigers to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra across a range of musical styles from African and Latin rhythms to chamber music.
He gave an ensemble workshop covering numerous percussion instruments including drums, marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, xylophone and timpani, and explored the discipline of performing coherently with other musicians. The session was rounded off with a small concert featuring the many Perse percussionists taking part.
Joseph Middleton also visited The Perse music department to work with some of the School’s most promising pianists and singers.
He won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artist of the Year Award in 2017, having established himself as a distinguished accompanist both on stage and on record, working with the illustrious likes of Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Felicity Lott and Carolyn Sampson.
In his masterclass, he provided expert advice on the art of piano and vocals working in tandem to the participating duos, who performed works by a range of composers from Brahms to Gershwin.
