Poster success for Perse students at Senior Team Maths Challenge national final
9 Feb 2018
A group of Perse students combined bell ringing with problem solving to great artistic effect to win the poster prize at the Senior Team Maths Challenge national final in London.
The team of Elena Cates, Yao Chih Kuo (both Lower Sixth), Siddharth Chandrappa and Rahul Iyengar (both Upper Sixth) had made it to the final of the competition, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust and the Further Mathematics Support Programme, after winning their regional heat in November.
As part of the final, the 90 teams taking part were asked to produce a poster about the mathematics of bell ringing.
They were given two weeks to research the topic and the Perse team agreed on the design in advance and prepared some of the material to bring with them.
However, on the day they were given additional questions about the subject which they needed to answer and incorporate into their poster design.
The Perse team’s winning design will now be used as the basis for a professionally-made poster which UKMT will distribute to all schools that take part in the Maths Challenge competitions.
