Perse pupils reach prestigious UK computer science event final
23 Feb 2018
Year 8 pupils Kiran Diamond and Andrew Girgis joined an elite group of young programmers after making it to the final of the UK BEBRAS Computational Thinking Challenge.
More than 71,000 children from across the country entered the intermediate category (ages 12 to 14) of the competition, which is supported by Google.
In the first round, youngsters took part in computer science problem-solving exercises, carried out in an allotted time, within their own schools.
Only the top 60 highest achievers went through to the final at Oxford University’s Department of Computer Science, with Kiran and Andrew among those making the grade.
The Perse pupils received their finalists’ certificates from Professor Peter Millican in a ceremony at Oxford’s Hertford College.
