Perse hockey and rugby teams enjoy visit from Argentine school sides

7 Feb 2018

Perse teams enjoyed a friendly rivalry on the sports pitch with sides from a touring Argentine school.

Barker College met The Perse in U18 and U16 girls’ hockey matches at the Upper School and a U17 rugby clash, played at Shelford RUFC’s Davey Field ground.

The teams from the Buenos Aires school were in Cambridge as part of a trip that had already seen them stop off in Dublin, Naas, Kilkenny, Belfast, Edinburgh and York.

During the remainder of their visit to the British Isles, the tourists were set to travel to Cardiff, Bath and London before heading back to Argentina.

Perse Director of Sport Glenn Kirkham was pleased the School could play host to the Barker hockey and rugby teams.

He said: “The chance for our students to experience a different style of opponent and to socialise with students from a different culture is such a valuable learning experience.

“We have been hosted by Barker College on a previous hockey and netball tour to Argentina and we were extremely happy to be able to return the favour.”
