Perse hockey team qualify for regional schools finals

23 Feb 2018

The East finals of the England Schools Championships beckon for The Perse boys’ U14 hockey team following their success in the regional qualifying tournament.

Played as a round-robin competition, the team opened up with an 8-0 win over Bedford Modern School and followed it with a 4-0 triumph against Langley School.

The Perse maintained their run of form by defeating Merchant Taylors’ School 3-0 to set up a winner-takes-all clash with Ipswich School in their last game to decide the pool victors.

Captain Charlie Underwood’s individual goal early in the decisive match was enough for the team to prevail 1-0 and book their place in the regional finals on 8 March.

Head of Hockey Jon Peckett said: “Everyone pulled together and the whole team played really well throughout. The boys deserved to go through to the East finals.”
