Strong runs at the Anglian Schools Cross Country Championships have earned places for six Perse pupils at the national finals.
Representing Cambridgeshire at the competition, held at Ipswich’s Royal Hospital School, four of the Perse contingent to qualify for the English finals came from the intermediate boys’ (U16) section.
Nic Harhalakis led the way by finishing fifth in 18min 21sec, with Tom Blake (10th), Rupert Gardiner (17th) and Ethan Seal (24th) also making the grade.
Jake Borrett booked his spot in the national finals, which take place in Leeds on 17 March, by coming 24th in the junior boys’ (U14) race, while Rebecca West will also compete following her 38th-placed finish in the junior girls’ event.
Tilly Borrett (intermediate girls), George McLaren (intermediate boys), Jo Schoenberg (senior/U18 girls) and Jamie Sales (senior boys) each have reserve spots for the English finals.
Meanwhile, Hugh Ponder produced an excellent display to come third in the Anglian minor boys’ (U12) race with a time of 11.20, while May Busher was 19th in the minor girls’ race – her first event at this standard of competition.
