More Cambridgeshire success for Perse hockey

24 Jan 2018

The Perse boys’ U16 hockey team have followed in the footsteps of the U14 squad by winning the county schools title in emphatic fashion.

The U14 team were crowned Cambridgeshire champions last week, winning every game without conceding a goal.

It was the same story for the U16 side as they maintained an unblemished record and kept a clean sheet throughout the tournament, which was hosted by The Perse.

They began with a 6-0 victory over Saffron Walden County High School and ensured they topped their pool with a 4-0 win against the Thomas Deacon Academy.

A narrow 1-0 triumph against Joyce Frankland Academy Newport, in the semi-finals set up a showdown with The Leys in the final, which The Perse won 2-0 thanks to goals from captain James Pitchford and Ben Cross.

The U16 team now move on to the East regional round of the England Hockey Schools Championships in Ipswich on 8 February.
