Perse team clinch spot in Senior Team Maths Challenge national finals

A group of Perse students got their heads around a series of tough numerical problems to claim a place in the national finals of the Senior Team Maths Challenge.

Siddharth Chandrappa, Rahul Iyengar (both Upper Sixth), Elena Cates and Yao-Chih Kuo (both Lower Sixth) took part in the local heat of the competition, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust and the Further Mathematics Support Programme, at Peterborough’s Arthur Mellows Village College.

They competed in three different rounds, working either as a whole team or in pairs, to solve a series of challenging maths problems.

The final round saw teams race against the clock to earn bonus points and despite the problems being longer and more difficult than last year, the Perse team maintained a positive approach.

They went on to win the heat by a comfortable margin to earn a spot in the national finals in London on 6 February.
