GB duathlon call-up for Perse pupil
7 Dec 2017
Lotti Knights (Year 10) has been named in the Great Britain U19 duathlon squad for next year’s ETU European Sprint Distance Championships in Ibiza.
She was called up to the national team for the competition after breaking into the top four in a qualifying event at Bedford Autodrome in October.
Lotti initially got into triathlon through her mother Ann, who competed in the European Age Group Triathlon Championships, before combining it with duathlon – a sport that includes two legs of running, sandwiching a cycling section, in each race.
For the Europeans, she will face an opening 5km run, followed by 20km on the bike, before finishing off with a further 2.5km run.
Lotti said: “It was something I was really hoping to qualify for and I’m really excited for it because it’s my first big event.
“I know I’ve got to get faster, but I’ll be training hard. I’ll be going on week blocks of training with coaches, specifically focusing on duathlon and triathlon.”
She also hopes to make it into the reckoning for the World championships in both duathlon and triathlon with a qualifying event taking place next March.
Lotti talks more about her training schedule and sporting ambitions below.
