Perse students take on challenging themes in Freefall performance

Theatre Director in Residence Matt Hawksworth reflects on the Sixth Form production Freefall
Playing to packed audiences in The Loft, this challenging, immersive piece of theatre explored the impact that events, such as 9/11, 7/7 and other major world tragedies, have had on the lives of people across the world.
Complex, fragmented, jarring and unsettling, I think the piece provided a lot for our audience to contemplate as they left afterwards.
Voices, sounds and stories came at you from every angle of the performance space.
Pupils from the Sixth Form were involved in many aspects of the production: from the performers, technical crew and intricate set design to the beautiful poster design and the powerful original soundtrack, this was a true team effort.
The play script included works by leading UK and US contemporary playwrights, alongside student writing.
This production was a great example of the collaborative skills required to deliver high-energy, thought-provoking theatre and it could not have happened without lots of care and dedication from the pupils and staff involved.
I am extremely proud of everyone that took part and delighted that the piece was so well supported by such appreciative audiences.
