The Perse School

Cross country triumphs for Perse teams

All four Perse teams have qualified for the East Central Regional final of the England Schools Cross County Cup following successful first round races.

Teams of six pupils represented The Perse in the respective categories of the event at the Robert Bloomfield Academy in Shefford, taking on schools from across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

The top four schools from each section qualified for the regional final, which takes place on 11 November, and every Perse team made it through.

The junior girls’ team (Year 7 and 8) set the ball rolling by winning their category with Beatrice Rogers, Rebecca West and Charlotte Hamblin in fifth, sixth and eighth respectively highlighting their strength in depth.

Hugh Ponder came third and Jake Borrett seventh as the junior boys’ team came third overall in their section.

Having reached the national final last year, the intermediate girls’ team dominated their category with Lottie Knights and Charlotte Laing leading from start to finish for a Perse one-two and Ava London finishing eighth.

The intermediate boys’ team rounded things off by taking runners-up spot with Tom Blake second and Ethan Seal fourth.
