Perse mathematicians win medals at Junior Maths Olympiad
A group of Year 7 and 8 pupils have competed in the national UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, with four students being awarded a distinction and silver medal.
The Junior Olympiad is solely for Year 7 and 8 pupils across the country, with around 1200 pupils qualifying from the initial Junior Maths Challenge competition – taken by virtually all schools in the country.
Aidan Wong, Ben Norman, Emma Harris and Michael Lin all received distinctions and silver medals for their efforts, which ranks them in the top 90 pupils nationally. Hongli Hu and Aaditya Nagarajan achieved distinctions and bronze medals, whilst Andrew Girgis, Nilanshu Mukherjee, Jay Sardesai and Samuel Shenker attained merits.
In preparation for the competition, the pupils have been regularly tested on Maths Challenge questions as part of extension work in their lessons, with further practice and tips provided at the weekly Maths Olympiad Club. They’ve not only had the opportunity to work together in groups, but also sought the counsel and advice of older students too.
